The Eating Habits that Fueled Serena Williams’ Sport Performance

Serena Williams eating habits that fueled her performance
Serena Williams was one of the best athletes in the world. Serena has recently announced her retirement from the tennis world to pursue other personal interests. For now, Serena, 40, is comfortable with her decision.

There comes a time in life when we have to decide to move in a different direction. That time is always hard when you love something so much. My goodness do I enjoy tennis. But now, the countdown has begun. I have to focus on being a mom, my spiritual goals and finally discovering a different, but just exciting Serena.” – as she posted on her Instagram account.
“Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.”, she continued.

What fueled her amazing sport performance?

Besides genetics, discipline, putting in insane training hours, a good coach, nutrition is also a huge part of her success in tennis.
“I embrace leading by example and love the opportunity to inspire young athletes.”, Serena posted on her Instagram account.

What are the eating habits that fueled Serena Williams’ tennis performance?

1. She eats plant-based.

Serena eats mostly plant-based. She is not a foodies ; in fact, she told Women’s Health her philosophy is “eat to live. Don’t live to eat. […] I want to have a healthy lifestyle and, so you know, [I’m eating] a lot of greens and mostly plant-based lately, just super healthy stuff.”, she said. Maybe her daughter Olympia is an extra motivation to commit to her healthy eating goals.

2. She eats protein.

Protein is an important part of every athlete’s nutrition. And protein and carb is always a lucky winner. For example, turkey sausage and baked potato, as Serena told Business Insider.
In December 2020, Serena helped launch a new vegan protein shake, Happy Viking, a brand she co-founded in partnership with beverage company Dyla Brands.
Happy Viking is “the easiest way to eat healthy”. Made with 20g of powerful plant protein and over 60 functional ingredients for your body and mind.

3. She drinks a lot of water.

Serena drinks a lot of water to stay hydrated, energized and fuel her sport performance and recovery.
She told Glamour, “Hydration is super important for everything from skin to muscle recovery, so I try to make sure I always have water next to my bed.

4. She likes to cook (when she has time).

“I love cooking. I don’t have a ton of time to do it often, but I love cooking and it’s just kind of relaxing for me,” Serena told Women’s Health. She gets a lot of inspiration from social media.

5. Pasta is for the tennis field.

The only time Serena eats pasta is before a workout or tennis match. She feels she had so much pasta in her career, that she would rather limit it as a functional food only.

6. She avoids snacking, especially sugar…

“I also avoid snacking, especially sugar, as that tends to keep me awake longer.”, she told Glamour.

7. … but she also has food cravings.

She will never refuse a taco. Alternatively, she will have something sweet, or order a cheese pizza and french fries.

7. She has a lot of discipline.

In the field of sport, this is like a no brainer, right? You cannot be a top performer without much discipline.
