Kim Kardashian talks about the major lifestyle transformation that allowed her to lose 16 lbs to wear Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress at the 2022 Met Gala.
“I am so honored to be wearing the iconic dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 to sing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy. It is a stunning skintight gown adorned with more than 6,000 hand-sewn crystals by costumier Jean Louis. […] I am forever grateful for this moment.“, Kim wrote on her instagram page.
The Skims founder explained her motivation to slim down for the outfit: ‘I looked at it like a role and I really wanted to wear this dress. It was really important to me. […] To me it was like, OK, Christian Bale can do it for a movie role and that is acceptable. Even Renée Zellweger gained weight for a role. It’s all the same to me.”
During the event, Kim confirmed she’d lost 16 lbs in three weeks to fit into the dress.
This sudden weight loss was controversial, many pointing out that it’s unhealthy to lose so much weight in such a short period of time, and also unsustainable. (the average weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week).
“I didn’t do anything unhealthy. In the end, it was a personal choice.”, Kim explained.
She detailed her strict diet, cutting out all sugar and carbs, and only eating the cleanest vegetables and protein. She was wearing a sauna suit twice a day, running on the treadmill.
‘I cut out so much sugar – a lot of junk food I was eating, I didn’t realize, like a lot of fried foods.”, Kim added.
Since then, afterwards, she continued to eat healthily. “I’m down 21 lbs now. I’m not trying to lose any more weight, but I have more energy than ever. I completely changed my lifestyle.”
The Skims founder is now launching a new skin-care collection , SKKN BY KIM released in June 2022. The clean products have clean, innovative formulas designed to revitalize the skin, and are made from recycled materials, offering a new perspective on aging.
