Diet Ice Cream For Weight Loss

Who does not love ice-cream? If you’re probably like most people, you love it.

But if you’re trying to lose weight and wondering if you can eat ice cream, the answer is yes. While regular ice cream is packed with sugar and calories that might cause weight gain, the good news is that you can still treat yourself in moderation.

In fact, you should occassionally indulge yourself with small wins. “I am a big believer that restriction and deprivation lead to overindulging and weight re-gain, meaning eating dessert plays a role in achieving those weight-loss goals,” says Brigitte Zeitlin, R.D., owner of BZ Nutrition.  So if you’re an ice cream lover, rather than cutting off ice cream completely, aim for one or two scoops to satisfy your cravings.

The whole idea about weight loss is to maintain a calories restrictions. “Anyone who eats 1,200 calories per day will lose weight in the short term, because the body will be in caloric deficit,” explains dietitian Jo Bartell. So you can eat ice cream and successfully lose weight as long as you keep the calories restrictions. However, sticking to 1200 calories is unsustainable and can be unhealthy in the long term.

Pro Tip:

What’s most important is to choose a healthy, well-balanced diet rich in vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, and whole grains. With time and practice, it will become your lifestyle. Pair it with regular exercise of moderate / high intensity, and this this common sense approach will help you lose weight and keep it off.

However, there are many low-calorie ice-cream brands on the market, and you can even prepare your own homemade diet ice-cream.

Some healthier low-calorie ice cream brands include:

Halo Top. It comes in 25 flavors, only 70 calories per serving, and lower fat and higher protein contents than regular ice cream. You can find Halo Top in both dairy and dairy-free products.

  1. Nice low-fat options for those that enjoy ice cream but don’t necessarily enjoy the calories associated with it. Definitely worth keeping in mind for those that are mindful of dieting.
